The year was 1979. In an era when female entrepreneurs were still a rarity, one woman opened a street-front boutique in Nogizaka, Tokyo.

Driven by a quest for exquisite craftsmanship, her journey soon led her to Europe.

Visiting ateliers in Paris, she engaged directly with artisans, overseeing the creation of each piece with her own discerning eyes. What guided her was not a desire to chase fleeting trends, but rather her intuition, her creativity, and a profound trust in human connection.

Today, having founded B.O.D Co., Ltd., she is stepping forward into a new chapter:

Introducing "Tout est beau"—a luxury bag brand born in Japan—to the world.

Yet, this is not merely a story about fashion. It is a tale of time, life, and culture—and the quiet elegance nurtured by the very art of living.

The Days in Paris That Shaped Her Aesthetic

Following her graduation from university, Kaniwa traveled to France.

It was there that she encountered the very values that would define her creative philosophy.

It was a profound realization: "Culture resides in the everyday."

"In France, people treasured the old," she recalls. "Historic buildings, beautifully aged leather, long-beloved cafés. Time itself becomes a form of value."

This sensibility would become the heartbeat of her craftsmanship.

Tout est beau does not seek to create bags that merely chase seasonal trends. Rather, it aspires to be a companion that deepens in beauty alongside a woman as she navigates the rich layers of her life.

Bags Brought to Life Through Dialogue with Artisans

Since the brand’s inception, craftsmanship has never been a mere manufacturing process to her.

"Meeting the artisans in person was indispensable to me," she reflects. "A person's life is revealed in their hands."

This philosophy has guided her across Europe over the years. From Paris to Cannes, from Cannes back to Paris. And once again, to Tokyo.

Through countless dialogues with leather craftsmen, textile creators, and artists, she has forged deep bonds with those who share an unwavering dedication to creating beautiful things.

Today, that very devotion lives on within Tout est beau.

What resides within the collection is:

  • The delicate sensibilities unique to Japan and France

  • The rich artisan cultures of both nations

  • The quiet emotion held in memories of travel

  • The elegance of a woman

Each bag is not simply an accessory. It is a small piece of art to carry by your side.

Why Share Japanese Craftsmanship with the World Now?

"Truly magnificent craftsmanship still survives in Japan today. Yet, I feel as though the Japanese people themselves are beginning to forget its true value."

Leathercraft, dyeing, weaving, and intricate handwork. Japan is home to countless techniques that deserve to be celebrated on the global stage. However, amidst the relentless waves of mass production and efficiency, this precious culture is quietly fading away. This is exactly why, for her, introducing these haute couture bags to the world is far more than a mere business endeavor.

"It is not the label 'Made in Japan' that I wish to sell. My desire is to share the culture, the spirit, and the human warmth that lie behind it."

To the Women of Today

"Women today carry so much on their shoulders. And yet, they continue to move forward with such grace."

"I believe there is no need to be perfect. The moments of hesitation, the experiences of failure, the times you gathered your courage—that life in its entirety is already profoundly beautiful."

This very philosophy lies at the heart of Tout est beau.

These bags are not crafted simply for the sake of fleeting trends.

They are dedicated to the women who have navigated the long journey of life. And they are for those who understand that true elegance is never acquired overnight, but is quietly nurtured over time.
